MEG-AAL-2015

MEG-AAL-2015 – Market Potentials, Developing Chances, Social-, Health- and Economic Effects of the Future Use of Ambient Assisted Living- (AAL) Technologies

The demographic change is perceptible all over Germany. Sinking birth rates and a higher life expectancy lead to an ageing of our society.

Against this background, Fraunhofer IGD Rostock compiles, together with several partners, a scientific analysis of the possibilities of using new ambient assisted living technologies for better coping with the everyday life. Intelligent environments (ambience intelligence) and especially the use field ambient assisted living belong to the new technologies promoted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The intention is to recognize development and use potentials at early stages through a comprehensive technology analysis. Furthermore, innovative solutions for the handling and prevention of possible risks shall be suggested.

The project aims at examining how elderly, ill or also handicapped people can be supported in living an independent and satisfying life for as long as possible. Central application fields are the intelligent house, medicine- and security technology as well as mobility. They are consolidated in the concept of ambient assisted living.

We create concrete application scenarios which are based on already existing scientific findings and case studies about AAL-technologies as well as on other surveys with regard to demands or preferences of future users and to technological possibilities. Market and service potentials are estimated for producers and suppliers of AAL-technologies. Furthermore, there will be developed valid action recommendations. The scientific project results will be published and introduced on expert conferences. An active cooperation in spreading the emerging action recommendations is of special importance for a sustainable use. Therefore, the project partners will jointly support the respective public-relations activities of the BMBF.
